The Children’s Hospital Alumni Western Australia (CHAWA) has just had its first birthday! This is the first newsletter to be posted, and quarterly from now on.
PMH is currently in the Decommissioning phase and ownership has passed back to the Department of Health, until 11th September when it then passes to the Department of Transport; Planning; Lands and the combined MRA/Landcorp. Decisions regarding the site are in the very very early stages.
The Community has been invited to provide comment on the Subiaco East Redevelopment Plan (includes Subiaco Oval, Kitchener Park and the PMH site) and if anyone is interested in supporting the preservation of both Godfrey House, which is heritage listed and the Old Outpatient Building which is not heritage listed, please post a comment. Annual General Meeting
Thursday 16th August 2018 is the AGM. It will be held at Perth Children’s Hospital Collegiate Lounge, Level 5. 5 pm for nibbles, 530 pm for our AGM, and 6pm for our speaker. We are very lucky to have 2018 Western Australian of the Year, Professor Mike Daube, a CHAWA member, present to the members. Someone from the Alumni Committee will be at the Front Reception area from 5pm to escort you to the Collegiate Lounge. There will be more information via email in the next week or so.
“Thank You PMH” Facebook Page
Sponsored by the PCH Foundation, the “Thank You PMH” page is still active and has about 4,500 members. It is worth having a look at the posts, staff and families alike have posted their memories, some sad, some happy. It reflects the profound effect that PMH has had on the Community of WA.
What is remaining of the PMH Archive Collection is now housed in boxes at Fremantle Hospital. The current volunteer Archive Coordinator has a shared desk space at PCH and is contactable by email email@example.com and can access the Collection for events if necessary. This email address is only accessed weekly so if there are any more pressing questions please email firstname.lastname@example.org
Godfrey House and The Old Outpatient Building
One of the Objectives of the Alumni is to establish a museum or some form of memorial to commemorate PMH, and to that end the Alumni Committee has been working towards the preservation of these two buildings. Meetings have taken place with the MRA/Landcorp, the Mayor of Subiaco, and various others to ensure that there is something for the Community to have, to recognise the Hospital’s history in Subiaco and the incredible journey of children’s tertiary health care since 1909. If you are interested in this project please email email@example.com
The Alumni Committee met with the Chief Executive, Dr Robyn Lawrence and the Child and Adolescent Health Service Executive group. We agreed on the Alumni maintaining a strong link with the Executive, ensuring we can be involved in mentoring, education and research activities in the future.
Early discussions are taking place for an Alumni Research Forum to be held at PCH showcasing the research activities that are happening at PCH and other associated entities, such as Telethon Kids Institute and Edith Cowan and Curtin Universities.
Grand Round PCH
The Grand Round, a weekly forum on Thursdays 12md-130pm, including lunch, is put on by Postgraduate Medical Education and the Alumni have an open invitation from the Clinical Staff Association Chair, Dr Kate Langdon to attend. Lunch is in the Collegiate Lounge Level 5 and the Presentation is in the Auditorium Level 5. The calendar is posted below and on PCH EVENTS.
